Out of Commission - Film by Brad Gallagher
Interview with the Filmmaker
What are some of your recent credits?
This year, I completed a feature length film titled LEFTOVERS, which has been submitted to the Sundance Film Festival. LEFTOVERS is a low budget zombie comedy shot in Chesterfield, MI, for which I wrote the screeplay, directed, edited and scored. Leftovers is listed on imdb.com, with a trailer.
Who were some important people that worked on the Film?
The crew for “Out of Commission” totalled six people, all novices who had previously worked on Leftovers with us.
What are some important production notes from the making of this film?
“Out of Commission” was a made for the 48 Hour Film Project, Detroit 2010. From initial concept through completed DVD, the film was made within the allotted 48 hours. The 48 Hour Film Project requires that certain things be included in the film, to ensure that no work is done prior to the kickoff date. All teams must randomly draw a genre (out of about 15 different genres). Out team, Chicken Circle, drew the genre of Drama. In addition, all films must include three things: 1) a character named Jason or Janice Strawberry, who is a realtor. 2) a prop – which was an award. 3) the line of dialog: “Take your time.” After the initial panic, we came up with a very simple story.
Please give a brief synopsis of your film.
In “Out of Commission”, the realtor, Janice Strawberry, is showing a house to a man named Mike Barson. She doesn’t expect Mr. Barson to be serious about buying. She is expecting a large family, with many kids, to be arriving in 30 minutes or so – and this family is ready to buy the house. When an accident occurs, she must decide how much the commission on the sale is worth to her.
What are some awards and acknowledgments for this film?
“Out of Commission” won the award for best Drama in the 48 Hour Film Project contest.
