Frankenmuth to Host Made-in-Michigan Film Festival

The Made-in-Michigan Film Festival (MiMFF) is pleased to announce that this year’s festival will be held on October 18 & 19, 2013 in beautiful Frankenmuth, Michigan.

Located in the heart of Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region, Frankenmuth has welcomed the MiMFF with open arms. The #1 tourist destination in Michigan, Frankenmuth boasts several outstanding attractions including Zehnder’s, America’s largest family-owned restaurant, and Bronner’s, the world’s largest Christmas Store. First-class accommodations, historic mills and museums, two award-winning breweries, the Bavarian Inn’s “world famous chicken”, and the beautiful Cass River that flows adjacent to eclectic downtown shopping makes Frankenmuth a perfect host city for this major event.

Now in its fifth year, the MiMFF is the only film festival that is exclusive to Michigan-made films. A 501c(3) certified non-profit organization, the MiMFF is dedicated to enriching the local community both culturally and economically by promoting public interest in the Michigan Film Industry and by encouraging the Michigan Film Industry to utilize local resources. The MiMFF is presented annually to celebrate and recognize Michigan film talent while making independent, Michigan-made films available to the public.

In addition to the world-class amenities available in Frankenmuth during the festival, filmmakers will enjoy networking with other film industry professionals through various Filmmaker Receptions, Hospitality Venues and festival-themed Parties. Festival-goers will be offered a full program of juried film selections shown in a state-of-the-art, 500-seat theater within the Bronner Performing Arts Center and at other quality screening venues throughout the city. Several MiMFF-related activities are being planned including educational student workshops. Frankenmuth’s annual Scarecrow Festival will be happening throughout the weekend as well.

The MiMFF Call for Entries and Film Submission Form is now available here:

[Download Submission Form].

Adult and student filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films before the Early Bird Deadline of June 1st to take advantage of the “No Fee” window.

The Made-in-Michigan Film Festival is excited to work with the city of Frankenmuth to provide an enjoyable and valuable experience for Michigan’s film community and film enthusiasts. “COLORFUL LAPEER”

FREE Fall Event Includes Color Bus Tour & Cultural Events Downtown

As autumn reaches it peak in Southeast Michigan, the first annual “Colorful Lapeer” is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 20 & 21, 2012. The event will include a free color bus tour that departs from the Historic Lapeer Courthouse as well as several other cultural events in Downtown Lapeer.

The bus tour will travel some of the most scenic routes in Lapeer County, making several stops along the way including the working studios of local artists Mike Monville and Dale Vronch, the historic Hadley Grist Mill & Covered Bridge, lumber baron William Peters’ Mansion in Columbiaville that is now an elegant bed & breakfast, and Paste Tense Antiques & Cider Mill in Lapeer, now hosting their Fall Festival. The event is presented in partnership by the Made-in-Michigan Film Festival and the Lapeer County Film Office and is geared towards Michigan film industry amateurs and professionals as well as the general public.

“We wanted to make it as easy as possible for filmmakers to come to the area and visit some of the gorgeous prospective filming locations,” said Made-in-Michigan Film Festival founder, Wally Green. “What better way to do that than to give them a free ride and show them around?”

Color Tour busses depart at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day and will last about 3.5 hours. General public tickets for the bus tours will be available on the day of the event at the Historic Courthouse on a first come-first serve basis.

“Colorful Lapeer” also includes complimentary film screenings of “Mary’s Buttons” and the premier of “Marbles”, both filmed in Downtown Lapeer.

“We will be showing these films in the exact locations that they were filmed,” Green said, “Mary’s Buttons” in the Historic Courthouse and “Marbles” in the old-fashioned bank building across the street.”

Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to dress in period garb for the film screenings. Filmmakers Samantha Smith of “Marbles” and Roy Govaere of “Mary’s Buttons” will be on hand for a Q&A session after the films. “Mary’s Buttons” will be shown inside the Historic Courthouse at 2:00 p.m. each day. “Marbles” will be shown at 3:30 p.m. each day at the St. Anglican Church (formerly Lapeer County Bank & Trust) across the street from the Courthouse..

Other events scheduled for the weekend include the Joyful Noise Singers performing “Old Fashioned Favorites” at 12:30 p.m., short-subject live theater by the Lapeer Community Theater group at 1:00 p.m., Lapeer Storyteller Jan Curtis presenting “Tales of Ireland” at 4:00 p.m. and local singer/songwriter Jamie Marvin performing her own compositions at 5:00 p.m. The Lapeer Historical Society will also be on hand at the Historic Courthouse to answer questions and speak about their ongoing restoration efforts.

“The Lapeer Farmer’s Market will be happening on Saturday as well,” said Green. “It will be a great weekend to visit Downtown Lapeer.”

All events during “Colorful Lapeer” are family-friendly and presented free of cost. Free-will donations will be accepted. For the full schedule of events and tour departure times, visit www.madeinmichiganfilmfestival.org or call the event info line at 810-882-1022.
